Quick start
From looking
to making.
- Open the live view.
Allow camera access so you can compose the scene in front of you.
- Choose your frame.
Use the aspect-ratio control to try a different proportion.
- Make the composition.
Choose a matt color, turn on framing guides when useful, and adjust the camera zoom.
- Choose how to save.
Set “Save with matt” on or off, depending on whether you want the surround included.
- Take the photograph.
Use the red shutter button. Allow add-only Photos access when requested so MatteView can save your image.
Common questions
What is MatteView for?
MatteView is a camera-based previsualization tool. Its realistic photo matt helps you judge composition, framing, color, shape, light, and space before taking a photograph.
Can I save the photograph without the matt?
Yes. Use the “Save with matt” control to choose whether the saved image includes the matt. You can compose with the visible matt and still save the photograph without it.
Why is there no live camera view?
Check that camera access is enabled for MatteView in your iPhone’s Settings. Camera access is required for live composition. If access is enabled and the problem continues, contact support and describe what you see.
Why can’t I save a photograph?
Check MatteView’s Photos permission in your iPhone’s Settings. The app needs permission to add images to Photos. If saving still fails, contact support with the steps that led to the problem.
Where do my photographs go?
Images you choose to save go to your device’s Photos library. You can manage and delete them in the Photos app. Your own iCloud Photos settings determine whether they sync with iCloud and your other devices.
Does deleting MatteView delete my saved photos?
No. Photographs already saved to Photos remain there after you delete MatteView. You can delete those photographs yourself in the Photos app.
Does MatteView upload my photographs?
